This year, the Clayton Downtown Development Association celebrates the 12th anniversary of the Town Square Concert Series… and if you haven’t been yet, this is definitely an event you don’t want to miss!
Here’s what you need to know about the Clayton Town Square Concert Series.
It’s three hours of live music and fun!
That’s right; Clayton Town Square Concert Series runs from 6:30pm – 9:30pm on the stage at Town Square (corner of Main and O’Neil streets) in Downtown Clayton. There’s live music on the center stage, but there’s also plenty of fun and activity to be found—food trucks, a bounce house, beer and wine vendors, and more.
The lineup is different month to month.
The big event happens once a month, May through October (except July), and the performers are different every time. In May, we witnessed a ’90s Girl vs Boy Bands showdown between Larger than Life and Independent Women. In June, we heard from one of the South’s biggest bands, the Band of Oz.
Coming up: In August, NC-based Sleeping Booty will take the stage by storm with their horn section, multiple vocalists, and Aretha Franklin and ZZ Top classics.
In September, the Embers, a band considered to have laid the groundwork for “Beach Music” in the Carolinas, will present their feel-good “music with a memory.” This one’s a personal favorite of ours—we sponsored the event!
Finally, the concert season closes in October with a special mid-week concert by Mountain Heart. This concert coincides with the cross-state Cycle NC, as over 1,000 cyclists will spend the night in Clayton on their way from the mountains to the coast.
The concert is sponsored by local businesses.
The concert is especially near and dear to a lot of us Clayton folks because it’s sponsored and run by the people who live and work here. HTR is a proud sponsor of the event, but we’re hardly the only local businesses investing time and money!
One27Homes is a big sponsor this year, as is the Clayton Chamber of Commerce, The Walk at East Village, the Arbors at East Village, Boulevard West, Country Superstars 102.3, Vinson’s Pub & Eatery, Deep River Brewing, Agri Supply, Leak Locators, and more.
The concert series pauses for the 4th of July.
If you’re wondering why there’s no July concert, it’s because the town of Clayton’s got its hands full planning a July 4th shindig! Always held on the 4th, the Annual Independence Day Celebration starts at 4pm at Municipal park and is filled with free activities for all ages, plus watermelon and ice cream giveaways, a fire department hose-down, and a free concert by Big Love, a Raleigh-based dance band.
There are cornhole tournaments, inflatables, fair rides, raffles, vendors, games, and more. Then, once dark falls, fireworks light up the sky! HTR is proud to sponsor this event, too.
