In the past 15 years, the population of Johnston County Public Schools has more than doubled, thanks to the fast growth of the area and its beautiful communities. The district has grown and flourished along with the community, with a 13% rise in graduation rates over the past four years and a 50% decline in dropout rates. This outstanding success comes from extensive community support through partnerships with businesses, local organizations, and student families.

College & Career Readiness

Career & College Promise

This unique program allows elligible high school students to enroll in college classes at Johnston Community College. Students have the opportunity to earn dual credits—meeting high school graduation requirements with college courses. Students may transfer their college credits after graduation or immediately begin a certification or diploma program in a technical field or career.

Career & Technical Education

This program provides students with education, training, and experience that will allow them to understand their career options and successfully start on the path to a successful post-graduation life. For high school students, this provides hands-on learning experiences in eight core fields of study.

Fields of study included in CTE are: Agriculture, Business. Finance and Information Technology, Career Development, Family and Consumer Science, Health Science Education, Marketing & Entrepreneurship, Tehcnology Engineering and Design, and Trade and Industrial.

Innovative High School Programs

JCPS offers several alternatives to "traditional" high school education for students whose goals or learning styles don't align with traditional learning environments. These specialized programs include smaller class sizes and support for students pursuing specific careers or who desire more rigorous classwork. Some of these opportunities are offered in collaboration with Johnston Community College and NC State University.

Johnston County Early College Academy

The Early College Academy is a partnership between JCPC and Johnston Community College. Students attend the Academy for five years, from grades 9 – 13, on the campus of JCC. Upon completion of the fifth year, students are awared both a high school diploma and an Associate's Degree or two years of college credit towards a Bachelor's Degree. In other words, students receive six years of education in five years.

Academic Programs

Academically or Intellectually Gifted

For students who perform well above the average, the AIG program at JCPS strives to provide a rigorous curriculum that empowers students to become innovative learners, creative problem solvers, and powerful communicators. The program offers advanced curricula and unique instructional programs, including Jacob's Ladder, Navigator Novel Study Guides, Project M3 Math, and William & Mary Language Arts.

International Baccalaureate World School

This two-year program encourages world thinking and intercultural understanding. Courses will be offered across six content areas, giving students the opportunity to earn an internationally-recognized diploma, in addition to a traditional high school diploma, upon graduation.

Fire Science Program

This program is a partnership between JCPS, JCC, and the Johnston County Fire Service, and is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in the fire science or service industry. Students will complete courses from the Office of the State Fire Marshall as well as complete courses at JCC to earn an Associate in Fire Science degree.

Sports & Athletics

In addition to a huge array of academic progamming options, JCPS also offers a wide variety of sports and athletic clubs. Programs offered vary by age group and specific school.
